The 5 Watt Radio is now the Expedition Radio!Updated 2 months ago

When we released the 5 Watt Radio back in late 2023, we were very excited to be offering our first GMRS radio to help adventurers continue to push their limits. The advanced feature set helped it quickly become the go-to radio for folks looking to take on extended trips in rugged terrain. 

Starting in late September 2025, we'll be transitioning to a new name for this model that better matches what it’s built for - the Expedition Radio. 

Nothing about the radio itself has changed, and all of the accessories we offer are still compatible. It’s still the same tough, trusted GMRS radio that adventurers already rely on. You can still count on 4-6 days of battery life, an IP67 waterproof rating, 5 watts of power for maximum range, and key advanced features for the backcountry user. 

No physical or functional changes will be made to the radio or its accessories, and you can continue to use your Expedition Radio with any other FRS or GMRS radio.

For a short period of time, when you order an Expedition Radio, the packaging will continue to carry the 5 Watt name. Accessories will do the same, with all packaging materials eventually being transitioned to the new name based on inventory. 

In short, we're simply tweaking the name of our GMRS radio to better match our customers, their adventures, and the evolution of Rocky Talkie as a company.
