Getting Started
What is the Rocky Talkie Wired Headset?
It's a wired, acoustic-tube headset built for hands-free, private radio communication. The push-to-talk (PTT) button and microphone are built into a module you wear on your chest, so your hands stay free — whether you're hunting, working an event, or in any other setting where you need to stay quiet and connected.
What comes in the box?
Every headset ships with four things:
- The acoustic-tube headset
- A chest-worn push-to-talk (PTT) module with a built-in microphone
- A Fit Kit with four interchangeable ear tips
- A thermoformed Stow Case for storage and transport
How do I set it up and wear it?
It takes about a minute:
- Plug the headset connector firmly into your radio's accessory port until it's fully seated.
- Clip the PTT module to your chest or shirt, somewhere you can easily reach the talk button.
- Route the acoustic tube up and over your ear so the cord sits comfortably behind your ear without tension.
- Insert the ear tip into your ear canal until it forms a snug seal.
To transmit, press and hold the PTT button, speak, then release to listen.
Compatibility
Which radios does it work with?
The headset is offered for both the Mountain Radio (MR), which uses the K1 connector, and the Expedition Radio (ExR), which uses the M3 connector. The K1 version works with any K1-compatible radio.
The connector has to match your radio, so check your exact model before ordering. If you're not sure which version you need, contact us with your radio model and we'll point you to the right one.
Fit & Comfort
The earpiece doesn't feel secure, or the sound is off. What should I do?
Try the different tips in your Fit Kit. It includes four options — standard small, standard large, and active ear-hook tips for the left and right ear. A snug seal makes a big difference for both comfort and sound quality, so it's worth trying each one to find your best fit.
The earpiece keeps falling out. What can I do?
Switch to a different tip size, or use the active ear-hook tips — they're designed to stay put during movement. Also make sure the cord is clipped so its weight isn't pulling the earpiece out of your ear.
Any other tips for a better fit?
Make sure the tip is fully seated in your ear canal, and route the cord up and over your ear without excess tension.
Water Resistance & Care
Is the headset waterproof?
It's water-resistant, not waterproof. The headset carries an IP56 rating and the push-to-talk module is rated IP68, so it's built to handle rain, sweat, and incidental water exposure during normal use. It isn't intended for submersion or heavy water exposure beyond that rating.
How should I care for it?
A few good habits to help it last:
- Store it in the Stow Case when it's not in use, rather than loose in a bag or pocket, so the cord and tube don't tangle or get crushed.
- Avoid yanking or pulling on the tube or cord.
- Be mindful of how the cord wraps behind your ear — repeated strain in that area may affect fit over time.
Troubleshooting
I'm getting no audio or very quiet audio. What can I try?
This is almost always a seal or connection issue. Work through these in order:
- Confirm your radio is powered on, the volume is turned up, and you're on the correct channel.
- Re-seat the ear tip so it sits snugly in your ear canal, forming a complete seal.
- Try a different tip size from the Fit Kit — a poor seal is the most common cause of weak audio.
- Check that the connector is fully plugged into your radio's accessory port and seated.
- Inspect the cord and acoustic tube for visible damage, kinks, or pinch points, especially near the retention clip.
The sound is muffled, distorted, or scratchy.
Check the acoustic tube for kinks, crimps, or moisture, and make sure the ear tip is clean and free of debris. If the distortion only happens in certain body positions, after water exposure, or following a specific incident, that usually points to physical damage rather than a settings problem.
Still not working?
Reach out to our support team. Photos of the headset and cord, plus a quick description of when the issue happens, help us sort it out faster.
Warranty & Returns
What warranty does it come with?
The wired headset is covered by Rocky Talkie's standard product warranty: 3 years for personal use and 1 year for commercial use, from the date of purchase. It covers defects in materials and workmanship under normal use.
The warranty does not cover cosmetic wear, damage from accident, abuse, neglect or shock, improper use or storage, or unauthorized modifications or repairs. If you think you have a warranty issue, contact support and we'll walk you through it.
My headset is damaged. Can it be repaired or replaced?
If the cord, tube, or retention clip is visibly damaged, cracked, or fused, the headset will typically need a replacement rather than a field repair. Reach out to support with photos of the unit and a description of the issue, and we'll help you figure out next steps.
What is the return window?
You can return the headset within 30 days of purchase. Items need to be in new, sellable condition and in the original packaging. US returns include a free prepaid shipping label — just start your request through our returns portal. International customers, contact support and we'll take it from there.
Shipping
When will my order ship?
Orders are processed for shipment the next business day after they're placed, then take about two days in transit. Orders placed on a Friday may not ship until the following Monday. Holidays and carrier delays can add time.
Domestic US orders over $100 ship free via FedEx 2-day. Orders to P.O. boxes go out via USPS Priority Mail instead.
